Foundations, penetrations and equipment installation

The steel that has to be in place before the equipment. We made and set the seats and frames, cut the openings and welded in the bulkhead penetrations, and fitted the supports for the cable and pipe routes.

How it was built

Stage 01 / 04

Frames and seats are fabricated to the drawing, then set to the steel that is actually there. We land the frame on the marked position, check it for position and level, and weld it down once it sits right. A unit light enough to be landed with its frame goes in first. Anything heavier goes on after the frame is welded down, and stays under cover until commissioning.

Stage 02 / 04

We mark the opening from the ring that goes into it, cut it, and prepare the edge before the ring is offered up. That way the root gap is even the whole way round. On a watertight boundary the gap is what the weld has to close, and an uneven one shows up at the tightness test.

Stage 03 / 04

The ring is worked from both sides at once. One fitter checks the alignment inside the opening while another dresses the prep outside, and we tack in a balanced sequence so the ring does not pull as it is welded out.

Stage 04 / 04

Supports for cable and pipe routes go on before the boundary is closed in. We set the brackets clear of the insulation and the pins that hold it, so the tray runs at its own height and nothing has to be cut back when the lining goes on.
